hi there. my name is abi. i am a lover. designer. writer. curator. reader. birdwatcher. i believe deeply in the power of story. i grew up in tucson, arizona close to a wash, or dry riverbed. if you are not a desert rat, you probably havent experienced what this really means. the river is dry most of the year but when the rains come it will run. a formative environment factor in my becoming. i grew up painting, drawing, cooking, building forts outside. i was homeschooled and loved anything and everything that illicited my curiosity. i went to architecture school with a desire to foster, and learn technical design skills with the hope of living a more creative life. ive written little snippets of poetry, musings, little ideas, taken photos, read anything and everything that i can get my hands on. i love collecting little treasures, being outside. i have spent the last 2 years next to the beach, communing with who i call my old friend. im interested in edges. and like the name of this site, i am fascinated by slowness. it began a long time ago i think. but formally in my last year of architecture school. my thesis began with a deep desire for slowness. that year, i subsequently read around 35 books on slowness, most of which led me to study indigenous practices, myth and ritual. I have many thoughts on this topic which will be shared here in this space... but i believe my purpose in creating this space is the act of slowness itself. my dad was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic cancer eight months ago. subsequently, i am watching him slowly die. if you have experienced a loved one get sick, you understand the million deaths you grieve as their body leaves you. i have felt called towards making a more permanent space for my musings, discussions, love letters, artifacts, and grief. a place to examine what it means to be human; to feel the broad spectrum of loss, love, joy, heartache, and desire. a place to explore other stories that i am reading and authors that i am in conversation with.

an act of slowness.
